The North-West University  has made its online application available for submission this academic year.

 NWU Application opening and closing Date

Please submit your application within the application cycle before the closing date to ensure that it is taken into account. Every year, from March to September 30th, applications are accepted.

NWU Online Application requirements

It is required of all applicants starting a new qualification to upload all required documentation, which frequently includes the following:

  • Copy of your school qualifications (eg Senior Certificate)
  • Copy of your official tertiary academic record(s) (if applicable) (internet copies will not be accepted)
  • Copy of your ID document (RSA students) or ID/passport (international students)
  • Copy of your marriage certificate (if applicable) or divorce decree (if applicable)
  • Sworn translations of documents if they are not in English or Afrikaans

Start at step 2 if you already have a student number

When you receive a student number, use that together with the PIN number you created to log in

Complete all the fields. Use the yearbooks to obtain more information about the qualifications, modes of delivery and curricula.

Undergraduate students

In order to consider your application, please upload the following supporting documents. If the application is incomplete, it may be declined by the University:

  • Grade 12 results, Grade 11 results (final results only) or a copy of your matric certificate – if you have already passed matric.
  • Applicants who are currently upgrading their grade 12 results, will only be considered after the improved results are presented to the NWU.
  • Applicants who follow Cambridge, GED or any other non-NSC curriculum, or who may qualify for exemption based on advanced age or post-school qualifications, must provide an exemption certificate as issued by USAF. 
  • Completed undertaking
  • Copy of your ID
  • Copy of your academic record (if applicable).
  • Additional documents for international prospective students:
    • A copy of relevant results
    • A copy of your passport
    • More information on payable fees

Postgraduate students

  • Completed mandatory undertaking
  • Copy of your ID
  • Copy of your academic record (if applicable).
  • Additional documents for international prospective students:
    • A copy of relevant results
    • A copy of your passport

NWU Application Form

Every graduate and diplomate of the NWU or its predecessors has the right to belong to the Convocation. This is only possible through a formal application and does NOT happen automatically.  Membership of the Convocation is also open to present permanent staff members of the University.

To become a lifelong member of the Convocation, you need to complete a membership application form and pay a once-off nominal fee of R50, as indicated on the application form.

 

When completing the membership application form, please note the following important points:

  • In terms of the NWU Statute, the amount of R50 is payable to become a member of the NWU Convocation. This is for lifelong membership if you are an alumnus of the NWU
  • The banking details of the NWU Convocation are as follows:
    Account name: North-West University;
    Number: 670640086;
    Bank: ABSA Noordbrug;
    Branch Code: 335-138.
    Please use the following as reference with your payment: KON + initials + surname (e.g. KON R Nel).
  • Please e-mail the deposit slip/proof of payment and this application form to Nicolize.VanDerWalt@nwu.ac.za or mail it to: Office of the Convocation, NWU Institutional Office, Private Bag X1290, Potchefstroom, 2520.
  • Your application cannot be processed without the duly completed form and proof of payment.

Complaints Register for Accredited Student Accommodation

The Complaints Register will be summarised weekly on a Friday, after 17h00. The nature of the complaints and the specific accommodation facilities will be identified and the necessary actions will be effected in the following week.

Checking your NWU application status is important if you want to make sure you’re eligible to start your course. There are a few ways to do this, and we’ve outlined the easiest way for you to find out. Just enter your NWU ID number into our online application status checker, and we’ll take a look for you. Depending on the status of your application, we’ll provide you with the appropriate information. You can also check the status of your application by following the listed below steps.

  1. Go to https://vssweb.nwu.ac.za/aaa-webclient/StudentWebCommand.do?sf=143380&lng=3#/top
  2. Then proceed to log in by entering your student number in the “University Number” field and your password in “PIN” field.
  3. Then Click “Login”
  4. Your application status will then be displayed.
